On Sunday 2 February 2014, the Mayor, Councillor Colin Nicholls and his Consort, together with several councillors and the Town Clerk, guarded by the St Ives Mace bearers headed a congregation of over 80 in the celebration of the Feast of St Uny. Also known as Lelant Feast, this is traditionally celebrated on the Sunday nearest to Candlemas, the Second day of February.
The Service was led by The Very Revd Roger Bush, Dean of Truro Cathedral assisted by Reader Gordon Gibson.
The Feast of St Uny celebrates the date of Uny’s martyrdom, though, since the reformation, all details have been lost. Before then it was the tradition that the Book of the life of St Uny was read to the congregation on this patronal festival, a task reputed to last several hours!
After the Service there was a Feast Lunch of delicious Pasties and puds and the number attending was the largest ever. A testimony to the quality of the fare!
