St Ives Festoon Lights Meeting 16 January ’17

St Ives Festoon Lights

St Ives decorative Lights Association is inviting all the residents of the town and surrounding areas to a meeting to discuss the replacement of the Festoon lights in the town. The association needs their help!

As many people will know, there is now a tripartite initiative to replace the complete system of Festoon lights, which is one of the longest in Europe. The Town Council, has agreed to take full ownership and responsibility for the lights, and also injected a substantial sum to the funds already raised. The St Ives Business Improvement District, or BID, has also made a  large contribution, meaning the Association can now make an immediate start on raising about £40,000 to replace the lights.

The replacement programme will have to be completed in stages. All of the current lights need to come down, and we have the money to replace three streets quickly. However, we then need to raise funds to replace the lights in the other streets in the town that will be left gloomy.

We really need the people and businesses of the town to come together to raise the funds we need to ensure complete replacement. The lights are a much loved feature of the town and really cheer the streets in dark evenings.

The Association urges all those with a passion for the lights and time, ideas or funding sources – or all three! – to come along and help in this thoroughly worthwhile cause.
The meeting will be held in the Guildhall, Street-An-Pol, St Ives on Monday January 16th at 7 p.m.  Please come along and enjoy a complementary glass of wine courtesy of Burdett Wines  and help us keep the lights shining for the next 30 years.
