Do you have or know of an interesting attractive garden or a stunning display of hanging baskets? If so please consider entering the annual garden competition which is run by St Ives Town Council.
There are various categories, from overall best garden to a wildlife garden or to simply a hanging basket or window box. Anyone from St Ives, Carbis Bay, Lelant and Halsetown can enter or you can nominate someone else’s. All of the allotments at Trowan allotment site are entered automatically.
As one of the organisers, Cllr Tamsyn Williams (pictured) comments: ‘People can be understandably nervous or modest about taking part in a competition but this is a light-hearted and good-natured event – a celebration of our gardens. It would be great to have a variety of new entrants from each of the areas around the parish. In the autumn we have an enjoyable presentation evening with photographs, gardening tips and refreshments.’
The categories are:
1. Best Garden in St Ives
2. Best Garden in Carbis Bay
3. Best Garden in Halsetown
4. Best Garden in Lelant
5. Best Window Box/Hanging Basket
6. Best Street/ Urban area/ Communal area
