ST IVES TOWN COUNCIL © 2024
The Ceremony is followed by a civic parade through the town to the Parish Church of St Ia for the Hext Sermon.
In the afternoon of the day of the Mayor Choosing, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor follow the tradition of inviting the children of the parish (Lelant, Carbis Bay, Halsetown and St Ives) to visit the Guildhall where they are offered a saffron bun and a drink from the Loving Cup.
Watch Councillor Johnnie Wells give a brief history of the Loving Cup.
The silver Loving Cup is a unique piece of historic civic regalia. It was presented to the town in 1640 by Sir Francis Bassett, Sheriff of Cornwall and Recorder of St Ives. It is famous for its commemoration to the Town inscribed upon it:
