The Town Council works with local groups and partner organisations in a number of ways:
A Campaigning Council
We pride ourselves on being a campaigning Council . Wherever possible, we will support the aims and objectives of partner organisations, through public statements of intent or letters of support. We have previously supported the following local organisations, good causes and campaigns:
Delivering Water Stations | Working with local businesses and Plastic Free St Ives |
Delivering on Climate and Nature Emergency | Working with the Climate Coalition on a cross sector working group |
Supporting the Need for Affordable Housing | Grant funding St Ives Community Land Trust and supporting local needs affordable housing sites |
Supporting the Campaign to Save Edward Hain Hospital | Working with Friends of Edward Hain to help them buy the site |
Supporting business initiatives to tackle anti social behaviour and crime | Funding and jointly administering a DISC app system to improve reporting |
Campaigning against chemical testing in St Ives Bay | Support for the Chemical Free Seas Campaign |
Safeguarding the future of the library | Working with the Friends Group FOSIL to devolve the library’s ownership and management |
Campaigning for banking facilities | Leading work to progress a banking hub for St Ives and hosting Barclays and CAB in the library |
Support for tree planting and woodland projects | Funding for Steeple Woods and a sensory garden, support for the Orchard project and planting in Palemon Best Rec. |
St Ives is a small Council but as far as possible it supports local and community groups through grants, joint fund raising and other concessions.
