The Town Council owns and maintains a network of six public space CCTV cameras throughout the town centre. These are managed under a contract and within a partnership arrangement of West Cornwall CCTV along with Penzance and Hayle Town Councils. All cameras are linked to a control centre based in St Ives.
The St Ives CCTV system consists of six fully controllable colour cameras which operate and record 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Cameras are actively monitored on a directed, information led basis for a minimum period each week. No notice is given of when cameras are being pro-actively monitored. During monitored hours operators can log incidents or engage directly with the police to escalate issues. Outside of these times footage is recorded and held in a secure location and can be reviewed at the request of the police and other authorised third parties to view the data. Camera locations are at
Fore Street, Higher Stennack, The Malakoff, High Street, Tregenna Place and Wharf Road
The system is operated under a code of practice which is regularly reviewed to ensure compliance with legislation and guidance, such as human rights and data protection legislation.
The Town Council also owns and manages locally recording CCTV systems linked to Town Council sites at the Guildhall, the Penbeagle Skatepark, Trewyn Gardens and the Cornerstone library.
