St Ives Town Council is delighted to welcome two new apprentices, Michael Skeggs as Digital Marketing Apprentice and Sonny Sampson as Building Maintenance Apprentice. Commenting on the appointments, Kirsty Arthur, the Town Mayor and Chairman of the Staffing Committee said:
“These are the Council’s first apprentices. Michael and Sonny have grown up in St Ives and joined the Town Council Team this year. They are being employed full time and receive training each week at Truro and Cornwall Colleges. The Town Council is fully committed to becoming an apprenticeship employer and playing its part to invest in the future of young people in St Ives“.
Explaining why the Council had taken this first step, the Town Clerk, Lou Dwelly said:
“Many of the job opportunities for young people are seasonal, linked to hospitality and tourism. There are fewer options for all year-round jobs in other sectors. From the Council’s perspective, everyone gains from employing an apprentice. It brings younger people into the team with energy and fresh ideas and, in return we can help them expand their skills and experience and hopefully improve incomes and job security. It’s a win-win”.
