Town Mayor invites G7 leaders to visit the real St Ives with her
As the Mayor of St Ives, I would like to say what a great honour it is for us to play host to the G7 Summit later this week.
We are a small but vibrant town and we have worked for many months to do all we can in preparation, and to support the event being a success.
Everyone in our community – residents, and businesses – have been asked to make some sacrifices in terms of their normal everyday lives to ensure the event is safe and successful and I would like to thank the people of the town for their efforts and continuing support.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our small part of the country to engage with such important visitors from across the world in an event, which will be remembered, for years to come.
In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, the usual welcoming ceremonies and public visits have been scaled back. However, as St Ives and Carbis Bay have been chosen to host the leaders and the Summit, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the leaders and their teams personally to our beautiful town.
As we begin to recover from an extraordinarily difficult year for our region, our nation, and the world, I am keen to extend the hand of friendship by inviting them to meet with me and visit the real St Ives and those areas of our community of which we are so proud.
I know schedules will be extremely busy but I look forward to the opportunity to formally represent the people of St Ives at this historic time.
