Yonkers
Yonkers means ‘young people’ in Cornish. Yonkers is the youth arm of St Ives Town Council, run by Laura Peach and Rosana Cox. As a youth team they are jointly funded by St Ives Town Deal Board and St Ives Town Council. They are reaching out to young people aged between 11 and 25, both in the town and adjoining communities. As well as linking young people in with each of the nine Town Deal projects, they are also working across wider parish youth initiatives.
What are we doing?
- Aiming to provide more things for young people to do in town
- Helping the next generation take ownership of St Ives
- Improving access to mental health and other support
- Representing 11–25 year olds locally and taking their views to local government
Yonkers Values
- Community and inclusion
- Youth empowerment
- Fun over fear
- Action over anxiety
Keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook to stay informed on events and opportunities for 11–25-year-olds. Giving young people a voice, Yonkers is guided by the young people of the town.
Yonkers works with and for the youth of St Ives. To have an impact and include young people in decision making and planning for the future, Yonkers has 4 strands;
- Sports and Facilities
- Environment and Action for Change
- Culture and Communication
- Music and Events
If you are aged 11-25 and would like to get involved, message us on Instagram or Whatsapp at 07508821901. Offer your skill set, join the Yonkers Task Force to have your say, gain valuable experience and be more involved in what happens across the parish.
