Yonkers St Ives hosted Cornwall Youth Council in the Guildhall Council Chamber on Thursday 3rd July. Youth Councillors shared their manifesto points related to the chosen topic of Mental Health and Wellbeing. Young people from the parish and local councillors were invited to take part in the discussion with a variety of local and regional professionals including representatives from Young People Cornwall and St Ives Community Orchard.
“Several members of the St Ives Council and I spent a very enlightening time with the Youth Council. It was great to sit in and hear their debate. I am always encouraged when I see young people getting involved in things like this. It gives me hope for the future. Well done to everyone who turned up and took part.” Councillor Johnnie Wells, Mayor of St Ives Town Council.
“It was fantastic to connect with young people and professionals in the St Ives area and work with them on the Cornwall Youth Council manifesto goals around mental health and wellbeing.” Rosie George, Children’s Rights Participation Officer; Cornwall Council.
“I am passionate that young people should have the chance to have their say. Opportunities such as this help them gain confidence expressing their views; making them feel valued and empowering them to become active members of their communities. A huge thank you to all those who helped make this event happen.” Rosana Cox, Youth Engagement and Projects Officer, St Ives Town Council.
