Porthkidney Sands is a huge north-facing beach running from the Hayle Estuary to Hawk’s Point in Carbis Bay. The beach stretches a mile in length and, when the tide is out, it is also a mile out to sea. This creates a vast stretch, which is less well known to visitors and means it is often half empty, with plenty of space for everyone.
The beach is accessed on foot through gentle dunes, crossing near the West Cornwall golf club.
The north end of Porthkidney beach – Hawk’s point – is a popular but challenging surf spot with un-predictable swell. The sands can also be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers, who don’t know the area, especially closer to the river mouth with its many cross currents.

This beach is dog friendly all year but dogs must be kept on a lead on the footpath leading from St Uny Church to Porthkidney Sands.
