In 1963 TROIKA pottery was established at Wheal Dream (now St Ives Museum). The designs and shapes of TROIKA are unmistakably recognisable and ensured many ordinary families could own an affordable artwork for their home. Local people were also employed at the factory to decorate the pieces. Yet there is no lasting reference to where it all began, and the studio location, and this piece of St Ives history, are all but forgotten.
St Ives Town Council, St. Ives Museum and St Ives Archive are supporting a campaign to erect a plaque at the former workshop entrance. A similar project for Talland House and Virgina Woolf was fully funded in 2022.
The aim is to ensure the name and reputation of a ground-breaking ceramics company has greater prominence in the Town, and its enduring legacy to the British Ceramics Industry is celebrated. All pledges are welcome, however small.
