The St Ives Archive, together with the St Ives Times & Echo and St Ives Town Council is collating material to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. As there was no tangible marking of her accession to the throne in February 1952 we will feature celebratory events in St Ives at the time of the coronation (on or around 2 June 1953). The aim is to create a document redolent of the time based on the recollections of those who were there. The Archive is looking for memorabilia for consideration for inclusion in the project so if you have photographs, papers, anecdotal memories or details of things you did to organise or help make the events happen, they want to hear from you. For instance there was a parade of the International Salvation Army Band through the town and several street parties where the youngest child received a silver crown from Mayor Marion Pearce – perhaps you were one of them ? If so, get in touch. The Archive can receive your submission in either of two ways:
1) At the Library on Wednesday 13 April between 10-1 where an Archive Trustee will be present to collect and discuss any items.
2) Digitally by email to admin@stivesarchive.org by Monday 18 April at the latest. We look forward to hearing from you. THE TRUSTEES, St IVES ARCHIVE
