New CCTV Cameras have been installed at Trewyn Gardens and Penbeagle Skate Park
In response to concerns from local residents, the Town Council has installed additional CCTV cameras in local parks. The cameras will record continuously and with infra-red settings, can produce clear images even during darkness.
The cameras at Trewyn Gardens aim to tackle recent incidents of anti-social behaviour. Cameras were also part of the original skate park scheme. With many children and young people using the facility, the additional cameras provide extra reassurance to parents, neighbours and skate park users.
Commenting on the installations, Councillor Tony Harris Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee responsible for CCTV said:
“Town centre CCTV is part of modern life – it is an important tool we use to keep everyone safe. In St Ives, it has helped in the prosecution of some serious crimes. As well as the six town cameras, the Council has now invested in networks of cameras in parks, to respond to the concerns of local residents and park users.
Neighbours living near Trewyn Gardens have experienced many months of misery – noise, vandalism, and anti-social behaviour. Although the gardens are still owned by Cornwall Council, St Ives Town Council hopes to be able to take over ownership in the next year. In the meantime, we have reached an agreement that CCTV cameras can be installed, together with new security gates. It is hoped that the recorded footage is never needed but can be accessed by the police at their request.
Hopefully this provides the re-assurance that local communities need.”
