In accordance with the national commemorations of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, celebrating 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe, St Ives will be marking the day with the following events and invite the community to join together to celebrate peace in Europe.
The Programme of activities:
The VE Commemorative 80 flag will be raised at the Malakoff for the day.
9am: The Island Chapel
Town Crier, Mace Bearer and Cornish Bard, Raymond Bridgewater, will be reading the proclamation.
11am: War Memorial
Representatives from the St Ives Royal British Legion will be saying prayers and laying wreaths.
6.30pm: Ringing of Church Bells
From 9pm: The Island
Gather on the Island to witness the illumination of the Island Chapel (at 9.30pm), sing together ‘I Vow To Thee My Country’ and, we’ve included, ‘Cornwall My Home’. And to represent the lights of peace we ask you to bring a torch, a lantern or your mobile phone to shine into the skies.
