Porthmeor

Porthmeor is one of the town’s prime bathing and surfing beaches with crystal white sand. It is one of only eight beaches in Cornwall that hold the prestigious Blue Flag Award 2021, given in recognition of water quality, safety, environmental management and education.

The beach is surrounded by some iconic buildings and places in the town, including the Tate Gallery, Barnoon cemetery, the historic Porthmeor Studios and cellars and St Nicholas Chapel (known as Island Chapel) on the promontory above.

There is Lifeguard cover from Easter until the end of October (2021) and toilets are operated from the surf lifesaving club house to the West of the beach.

Please note: Dogs are welcome on this beach except between 15th May and 30 September (10am – 6pm). From May, a seasonal dog ban comes into place earlier in the year for blue flag beaches.
